Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials said the structure of the station and the entry and exit parts were ready and the tunneling work, the laying of tracks, signals, telecommunication and electrification had also been completed.

“We will soon send an official request to the commissioner of metro rail safety to inspect the section. We will open the station as soon as we get his approval,” DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said. The opening of this station is likely to benefit thousands of people who work in more than 100 government and private companies located in and around the ITO area.

Though the deadline for the opening of the entire section was December 2015, the DMRC had commissioned a small section of three kilometers - between Central Secretariat and Mandi House — in July last year. The other stations on this line include ITO, Delhi Gate, Jama Masjid, Red Fort, Kashmere Gate.

According to Dayal, only a single line will be made operational between Mandi House and ITO stations as there will be no reversal facility available unless the remaining corridor is made operational.

The DMRC officials said they will also remove the barricades at the construction site at Bahadurshah Zafar Marg by the end of next month.
