The Election Commission on Tuesday announced new dates for holding elections to two Rajya Sabha seats from Jharkhand. It had earlier scrapped the voting process, following allegations of bribery and horse trading.
The biennial election will now be held afresh on May 3, the EC announced. A fresh notification will be issued shortly. The earlier notification of March 12 for holding biennial elections to fill the two vacancies from Jharkhand was rescinded by the President on March 31.
As per the fresh schedule, the nominations can now be filed up to April 23, and they will be scrutinised the next day. The EC has fixed April 26 as the last date for withdrawing nominations, and polling would be held on May 3, between 9 am and 4 pm. Counting would be done on the same day, at 5pm.
The EC has already sought a CBI probe into the events that led to the cancellation of the March 30 elections.
