Jindal sting: Zee boss, son get interim relief

A Delhi court provided Zee chairman Subhash Chandra and his son Punit Goenka interim protection from arrest till December 14, in connection with the alleged Rs. 100 extortion bid by two jounalists of the channel.

Additional sessions judge Raj Rani Mittra said, “...the applicant shall not be arrested. However, he (Chandra and Goenka) is directed to surrender his passport to the investigating officer.”

The court said it considered the “fact that the prosecution had not yet reached a conclusion as to whether custodial interrogation of the applicant (Chandra and Goenka) was required in the present case or not”.

The court directed the police to file a fresh report on December 14 on the need for custodial interrogation of the father-son duo.
