The college has decided to upgrade its lecture, library and course facilities. “We are planning to add new floors to the existing lecture areas so that the infrastructure layout of the academic section is more conducive to learning,” said Sister Marina John, principal, JMC.

The interiors of the college, including the administrative wing, are being reconstructed to make operations within the complex smoother for students. This reconstruction project will also be extended to lecture halls and library, which will see an addition of new floors in the coming months.

Currently, the JMC academic building as well as its library forms a three-storey structure.

“The library looks very out of shape right now. So, we are planning to add a new floor to give the students a larger space to study whenever they want to. We will also add new floors to the existing lecture blocks and connect all the wings so that the academic space is much more than what it currently is,” said John.

In addition to physical infrastructure, JMC has also decided to include two new courses: Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.). The college, which currently has seven honours courses along with the BA and B.Com. programmes, is now looking at upgrading its pedagogy.

While plans to hire new teaching staff have already been set into motion, the required infrastructure for the courses is yet to be formalised. Moreover, the college is still awaiting the go-ahead from the university to formally start offering these courses.

“We are planning to start these courses preferably from this academic session itself. But we are still waiting for the sanction from the university body. If the green signal doesn’t not come in time for this academic year, then we will start the courses from the next academic year,” said John.

This move of the college too has been lauded by students. “Not a lot of colleges in Delhi University offer BBS and B.Ed. Those who do are often not perceived to be state-of-the-art colleges. If a college like JMC offers these courses, there will definitely be more takers than there already are,” said Mamta Sharma, who is applying to JMC for numerous other courses.
