Introduced in 1989 in Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, this three-year course has become one of the most coveted undergraduate courses. Now, it is offered by five Delhi University colleges: Lady Shri Ram, Kamala Nehru, Kalindi, Maharaja Agrasen and Delhi College of Arts and Commerce. The course consists of 20 papers over six semesters capped by an internship.

Misconceptions
The profession is often linked to glamour and seen as a quick step to fame. Would-be journalists should know it is less about glamour and more about sweat, hard work and working at odd hours.

Career options
Over print, broadcast and online journalism, there are several allied fields. “Every year, almost a quarter of our students go into advertising, public relations, documentary filmmaking and a good number also opts for further studies and research,” says Anubha Yadav, lecturer, department of journalism, KNC.
