A Supreme Court judge on Tuesday took a dig at the human rights activists and said those who spoke in favour of terrorists were actually advocating for “animal rights and protection.”

“Those who violate the rights of society and have no respect for human rights are not humans but animals. And people fighting for terrorists are actually supporting ‘animal rights,” said Justice Arijit Pasayat at a conference organised by the Indian Law Institute, a deemed university.
Alongwith noted jurist Fali S Nariman and India’s Solicitor General G E Vahanvati, Justice Pasayat called for a united effort to fight terrorism.
Nariman said the right of silence should be taken away from terrorists. “If an alleged terrorist refuses to answer court’s query, the presiding judge should be empowered to draw an adverse inference against him,” Nariman added.
Vahanvati said, “If a lawyer does not want to fight for Kasab, we should not force him or her to do so. Let Kasab defend himself before the court, if he can speak any language other than terrorism.”.
Justice Pasayat also blamed the society for the spurt in terrorist attacks. “We are hypocrites and speak in different tones when it comes to terrorism,” he said.
