Ahead of the commencement of hearing by a probe panel in connection with impeachment proceedings against him, Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran has been asked to go on leave.

Dinakaran — who hasn’t been doing any judicial work since December 2009, when the Rajya Sabha admitted a motion for initiation of impeachment proceedings against him following allegations of corruption and land grab — will be replaced by Delhi High Court Acting Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur, sources said.
The decision was taken by the Supreme Court collegium in view of various representations that the court’s functioning was being affected. Dinakaran will be on leave till impeachment proceedings are concluded.
The collegium is understood to have taken the decision in view of the fact that the high court cannot remain headless till the panel finishes its probe against Dinakaran.
