'Kanda used staff's phone to call her'

A week after 23-year-old former airhostess Geetika Sharma committed suicide in her Ashok Vihar home, Delhi Police sources said that Gopal Goyal Kanda, a former Haryana minister, used to call her from her colleague's phone. Sources said that over 400 calls were made from a particular number to Sharma's mobile phone in the past two months. HT reports.

A week after 23-year-old former airhostess Geetika Sharma committed suicide in her Ashok Vihar home, Delhi police sources said that Gopal Goyal Kanda, a former Haryana minister, used to call her from her colleague's phone. Sources said that over 400 calls were made from a particular number to Sharma's mobile phone in the past two months.

The number belongs to an MDLR employee, whom police have been questioning for the past week and now treating as a witness. "We are questioning Kanda's many employees. Most are our witnesses. Kanda used their phones to call Sharma after she stopped taking his calls," a senior police officer said.

One of Sharma's colleagues has told the police that Kanda used to sit in Sharma's cabin most of the time. Police also said that MDLR's HR manager Aruna Chaddha played a crucial role in instigating Sharma to commit suicide.

Meanwhile, several police teams continued to conduct raids in Goa, Sirsa, Faridabad, Gurgaon and West Bengal, but to no avail. Delhi police's cyber cell also raided MDLR's Gurgaon office and seized the hard drive of the computer which was used to send emails to Sharma.

The victim's family had produced a series of emails sent to torment Sharma. One of them was reportedly sent by a Gurgaon police inspector to Emirates, which was instrumental in Sharma being sacked from the airline.

The family also claimed that Kanda had used his contacts to send these mails and forced Geetika to join his company again. Police said that cyber experts have been roped in to check the authenticity of these emails.
