On a day a special CBI court framed charges against his daughter Kanimozhi in the 2G spectrum allocation case, DMK chief M Karunanidhi met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Though the DMK described these meetings on Saturday as “courtesy calls”, the former Tamil Nadu chief minister’s anxiety over the delay in Kanimozhi getting bail in the case underscored their interactions. Kanimozhi, a Rajya Sabha MP, has been in jail since May 20.
On Friday, Karunanidhi met law minister Salman Khurshid at a five-star hotel after he flew into Delhi from Chennai.
Kanimozhi recently applied a third time for bail. The CBI has indicated that it will not oppose her plea this time. Kanimozhi’s lawyers have argued that she should be allowed to go home as she is a woman and has a young son to look after.
The court will resume hearing the bail applications of various 2G accused, including Kanimozhi, from Monday (October 24).
Karunanidhi was accompanied by wife Rajathi, Kanimozhi’s mother, when he went to Gandhi’s 10, Janpath residence. Later, Karunanidhi and Rajathi met Kanimozhi at Tihar jail. After that, the DMK chief dropped by at the PM’s 7, Race Course Road residence.
