Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, who is facing a trial for allegedly inciting a mob during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, on Friday questioned in a Delhi court as to why the complainant and key witness Jagdish Kaur had not named him earlier despite having had "ample opportunities" to do so.

Kumar's counsel said that the complainant had made a "false" statement by naming him as the one who had instigated the mob to strengthen the CBI's case.
"Jagdish Kaur did not name Kumar as an accused in her statements earlier. In her statement to the Delhi Police in November in 1984, she accused everyone except Kumar. She named him only before Justice Nanavati Commission in 2000," protested Kumar’s counsel IU Khan.
The arguments remained inconclusive and will continue on September 3.
