With laptop being the most common gadget ‘left behind’ by passengers at the airport, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has come up with a plan to return missing laptops to passengers before they board a plane.

CISF men posted at the gate have been asked to tell passengers entering the airport to paste their name and other relevant details on the laptop. This is because if a passenger loses it, CISF personnel can return it before he boards the plane.

“Till now, missing laptops were deposited in the lost and found department. To get one’s laptop back, a passenger has to undergo a number of formalities. To save people from inconvenience, we have asked them to paste their details on it,” said a senior CISF officer not wishing to be named.

Everyday, CISF recovers 6-7 laptops and sends them to the lost and found department.

“We are also making announcements to educate passengers on the new guidelines. A passenger spends at least 2-3 hours in the terminal building before boarding a plane. Thousands of laptops are lying in the godown as their owners haven’t returned,” the officer added.

Also, in view of incidents of swapping of mobile phones during security check, CISF has started giving tokens for the same.

“After reaching the Security Hold Area (SHA), passengers put their belongings in a tray for X-Ray screening and collect it after frisking. This takes 5-10 minutes. During this time it is easy to pick up someone else’s gadget,” he added.

“Recently, we have started giving tokens to passengers and the same is kept in the tray. After screening, our staff checks the token and allows passengers to collect their belongings,” he further said.
