Lakhs of devotees gathered at the various ghats in the Capital to pay obeisance to the Sun God on the occasion of the Chhat Puja on Tuesday.

The Delhi government did its bit to assure that the Chhat festival went smoothly. The total number of ghats went up to 47 from 41 last year and their cleaning was put on war footing. Tents, water supply, toilets and medical facilities at the ghats were also arranged.
“Chhat is the biggest festival for the year for us,” said Anamika Jha, a resident of Mayur Vihar. Worshipers, usually women, sleep on the floor, fast and clean the house. The entire family worships the Sun on the bank of a river or a water body.
A number of people head back home. Railway authorities say there was a huge rush for trains heading towards Bihar and eastern UP in the past one week.
