Lawyer's killers planned to extort ransom

Meanwhile, Rohit's body has been handed over to his family after post-mortem examination, police said. Rohit, 28, son of a senior advocate who worked as an assistant in the legal section of the Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS), went missing on Monday night. His decomposed body was recovered from an isolated area in Sambhal, UP, on Friday.

According to an investigating official, the accused -Mohammad Anadil and Mehboob Alam - had made the first ransom call for R50 lakh to the victim's father minutes before drawing Rs 8,500 from his account and gunning him down.

"We have reasons to believe that the accused had planned to extort ransom from Rohit's father before murdering him, which was also part of their plan," he said.
