Lawyers, court staff helped victims get quick aid

“Since court proceedings had just begun, many lawyers were outside the building. As we heard a loud explosion, we all rushed to the site. There was thick smoke, nails and shards of glass were scattered everywhere,” Dave told Hindustan Times.

“Primarily, we managed traffic on the road so that the injured could be taken to the police vans swiftly. Lawyers stood at the two ends of the road to stop vehicles approaching Delhi high court,” said the senior counsel, who was in his car opposite gate number 5 where the blast occurred at 10.15am.

Dave, along with Delhi High Court Bar Association president AS Chandhiok and vice president Kirti Uppal, worked with other advocates, members of the public and the police as a team to help victims after the terror strike.

“Quick police response saved many lives. Else, many among the injured could have died. These vans zoomed off with the victims to hospitals,” Dave added.

Several lawyers and high court staff left the court proceedings mid-way and rushed to the spot. Within minutes of the explosion, all lawyers had vacated the premises.
