It is the festival that brings together people of every caste and tribe in brotherly and sisterly love. It is celebrated in the remembrance of Lord Ram’s victorious entry into Ayodhya. He became an ideal king to promote peace and love in His kingdom (also called Ram Rajya).

Ram is an ideal personification, also known as Raghunath and Ramachandra. According to Hindu tradition, Ram is an avatar, an incarnation of Vishnu. The main purpose of His incarnation is to demonstrate the ideal human life on earth. Ultimately, Ram slays the rakshas king Ravan, who abducted his wife Sita into Lanka, and re-establishes the rule of religious and moral law on earth known as Dharm. Ram then made Ravan’s brother, Vibhishan, king of Lanka and returned with Sita to his kingdom in Ayodhya to become an ideal king.

During these days, people prepare themselves pompously and spiritually to mark the religious mood of celebrations. The special attractions of the festivity are cleaning of the houses, white washing, purchasing of new goods, clothes, gold and vehicle and so on. Diwali is a blissful celebration of Dhanteras, Goupuja, Lakashmi puja, Choti Diwali, Badhi Diwali and Bhaiduj. It fills the heart of people with love to approach everyone. It’s an invitation to light our lives by removing darkness from our hearts through loving kindness and acceptance of one another.

Imbibing moral values of this feast, its high time is to dispel the darkness from the face of the earth by burning our lives as a Deepak or candle to illumine one another’s life. Let us vow on this day to live in peace and harmony, always.
