Lodi Garden gets fragrant trees' corner

The Fragrant Trees' Corner contains about 2,000 plants of 21 species and it has been created with the involvement of 200 students of eco-clubs of schools run by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

Spread over 100 acres, Lodi Garden has about 7,000 trees of 200-odd species. The garden attracts more than 50 species of birds, several of which have made it their home.

The garden was designed in 1936 as a setting for almost 500-year-old monuments. Till the early 1930s, the Lodi tombs stood in the village of Khairpur, on the outskirts of New Delhi.

Lodi Garden has tombs of Sikandar Lodi and Muhammad Shad Sayyid, Bara Gumbad, Sheesh Gumbad, Athpula, Turret (a tower) and remains of other Mughal period monuments (15th & 16th century). The garden also has a National Bonsai Park, a butterfly park, herbal garden, bamboo grove, lily pond and a rose garden.
