A rally organised by the traffic police in Noida on Sunday drew a poor response.
Only a dozen children turned up for the rally when the number was 300 for the same event last year.
The rally was to start from Noida Stadium at 10.30 am but till 11.15 am, only a dozen children had turned up.
Noida SSP A.K. Singh and SP (City) A.K. Tripathi took part in the rally, organised to create awareness about traffic rules and safety measures among people.
It took 15 minutes for the rally to return to the stadium.
Lack of interest and non-involvement of any non-government organisation (NGO) were the reasons behind such a low turnout.
Last year, three hundred children had participated in the rally as a Delhi-based NGO was involved in the rally.
“We sent requests to around 40 schools of Noida and Greater Noida. We were expecting at least 300 children,” said SP (Traffic) Ajay Sahdev. “It appears residents have lost interest in public awareness programmes.”
He said some seminars in schools were also conducted to make students aware of traffic rules. Residents welfare associations also hosted some such seminars.
