‘Main accused planned murder 15 days before’

The police have roped in several teams to nab Bhattacharya, who is currently on the run. On Friday, the south Delhi police sent one more team to Ranchi in Jharkhand, where Bhattacharya is suspected to be hiding.

Investigators believe his arrest in the case is very crucial, as they would be able to establish the motive behind the murder. Singh’s severed head has still not been found since his headless body was found in Rewari, Haryana.

Bhattacharya, along with his accomplices Manish Kumar and a juvenile, had severed Singh’s head after strangling him with a gear cable of a two-wheeler at their rented accommodation in Greater Noida.

An investigating officer said, “During our interrogation, Sonu disclosed that he had come in contact with Bhattacharya through a common friend. The girlfriend of that friend, a Nepali national, knew Bhattacharya as he had a crush on her.” The accused had sold Singh’s i10 car to Sonu.

According to the police, Sonu claimed he had contacted Bhattacharya regarding buying a second hand car as the latter had claimed that he had good contacts in Delhi.

“The deal was finalised for R2 lakh. Bhattacharya had planned to sell the victim’s car after killing him. He involved the other two accused as they needed money. But he told them that the car fetched him only Rs 50,000,” the officer added.
