A rear entry will get a new façade on the lines of the Ajmeri Gate direction of New Delhi station, which was developed before the Commonwealth Games.

A new parking lot will also come up at the station, for which the Northern Railways is trying hard to remove the encroachment on the approach road coming from the ring road.

Over a lakh passengers enter the station from the Sarai Kale Khan direction, but to date the railways had not bothered to pay any attention to the rear entry. The makeover of the front of the station was done in 2010.

Currently, wrongly parked auto rickshaws and other vehicles choke the rear entry, making it difficult for passengers to reach the station. Encroachment and an improper entry and exit plan make the situation worse.

Nizamuddin station handles around 150 trains and more than three lakh passengers every day. The railways is also in talks with the Delhi government to link the railway station with the Sarai Kale Khan bus terminal via a skywalk, but the project can take another two years.

The railways expect the renovation work to be completed in another two months.

“We’ll remove encroachments to broaden the approach road. We are in talks with other civic agencies as well to remove the illegal construction on both sides of the road. The concourse area will also be beautified and better passenger amenities will be provided,” Sharma added.
