The civil aviation ministry has recommended major penalty proceedings to the Central Vigilance Commission against AK Sharan, a joint director general in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Sharan, who is under suspension, may either get dismissed from service or a demotion in rank.

It is alleged that Sharan misused his power by extending undue favour to a flying school to open a training academy in Raipur. His daughter obtained her commercial pilot licence from the said flying school later.
“Investigations have revealed that Touchwood Entertainment was granted approval to impart flying training in August 2007 despite several objections. Sharan influenced a junior official to give permission to his daughter to appear in six special sessions to clear three papers despite being ineligible,” an official said.
