The outgoing Left Front government had borrowed R17,000 crore for the vote on account this year. Of this, it spent R9,000 crore within the two months of the current fiscal, Banerjee said.

“With just R8,000 crore remaining, how do I carry on for the next 10 months”, Banerjee asked.

Emerging out of a meeting with finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, the CM said the state’s finances were in a mess because of the 34 years of ‘misrule’ by the Left Front.

West Bengal today has a debt of R2,03,000 crore, Banerjee said, adding that the state would bring out a white paper on the state of the finances in West Bengal.

Asked about the outcome of her talks with the finance minister, Banerjee said Mukherjee would discuss issues with the PM.
