Police officials say, three local property dealers, from whom the victim had taken money, had been harassing him.

“Bharat Bhushan had taken money from property dealers Suresh, Dheeraj and Billu. Bhushan owned a flat and the trio was trying to grab it,” said a senior police officer.

Bhushan’s wife Meena lodged a complaint after which a case of extortion was registered at the Sadar police station.

“Initial investigation suggests that Bharat had taken Rs 5 lakh to invest in a business. But he suffered heavy losses and couldn’t return the money,” the officer added.

Bhushan was rushed to the Tirath Ram hospital where his condition is said to be stable.
