Man climbs telephone tower, threatens suicide

A 52-year-old mentally unstable man climbed a telephone tower in Lodhi Colony and stayed there for more than fifteen hours, threatening to kill himself., reports HT Correspondent.

A 52-year-old mentally unstable man climbed a telephone tower in Lodhi Colony in south Delhi and stayed there for more than fifteen hours, threatening to kill himself, police said.

The man, identified as Mangal Singh, work as an electrician with the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and had climbed the tower on Tuesday night, a police officer said. Singh agreed to come down only if a television channel was called to the scene, he added.

He slept there the entire night and woke up on Wednesday when he felt thirsty.

Singh lives in Dwarka, Sector 8 with his family. He has been undergoing treatment for a mental disease since the past six years.

The fire brigade was called in to rescued the man around noon.
