A Delhi court on Wednesday sentenced a man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping an 8-year-old school girl, relying upon her testimony against him.

“The testimony of the girl victim inspires confidence. Her parents have also supported her version,” Additional Sessions Judge Shalinder Kaur said, holding Kartar Singh guilty of rape and criminal intimidation.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on Singh.
In her testimony, the victim, a class III student, said Singh, who was her neighbour, had called her to the rooftop of his house on June 24, 2001, in the name of offering her chocolates and sexually assaulted her.
Singh, 27, who was arrested after the matter was reported with Patel Nagar police station in west Delhi, had remained in judicial custody for 11 months.
The prosecution examined 15 witnesses to prove its charges against the convict.
