The accused, identified as Nikesh Gupta, reportedly paid R10 lakh to the hired killers for the job.

The victim, identified as Jai Bhagwan Gupta, 60, was a spice trader from the Khari Baoli area of the city.

The police said Gupta was reportedly shot dead when he was returning home in the Model Town area of northwest Delhi in 2008.

Incidentally, one of Nikesh’s elder brothers was found dead in a car under mysterious circumstances in 1995.

Nikesh was reportedly angry with his father about spending money and feared that he would not get his share in the property.

He was unemployed and involved in illegal activities, which were objected to by his father, police said.

Although the incident took place two years ago, the arrests were made on Tuesday.

The development came after the crime branch arrested four members of the gang that was said to be involved in the crime.

“It was a blind case. But when we got a tip-off that they would assemble near Kalyan Vihar yesterday, we laid a trap and arrested them,” said the officer. The other accused have been identified as Lalit Yadav, 22, Lal Bahadur, 40, Gaurav Kumar, 23 and Mohd Adil, 23.

It was Yadav who introduced Gupta to the hired killers. Another alleged contract killer, Rakesh Kumar, involved in the case, died in a gangwar in Haryana’s Rohtak last year.

“Nikesh demanded money from his father for expenses. But the deceased would not give him money. This enraged Nikesh, after which he hired the contract killers to kill his own father,” said the officer.
