A man was arrested with 18 country-made pistols and 19 live cartridges from a DTC bus in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar on Friday morning.

The accused, Ravinder, has been arrested under the Arms Act. The arrest came during a routine check, which is part of a drive launched recently following a directive by the Delhi police commissioner.

“A DTC bus, plying on route No. 816, was stopped for checking. A man, carrying a sack, was suspected. The police found 18 country-made firearms and 19 live rounds from the sack,” V Renganathan, additional CP (west), said.

“Ravinder said he went to an old associate in Meerut to procure arms,” he added. Police said Ravinder had planned to sell the weapons in Delhi.

Ravinder, who had come to the Capital by train, had boarded the bus from Old Delhi railway station for Uttam Nagar. Police said he had planned to keep the weapons at his residence in Nihal Vihar. “We are now looking for the people who planned to buy the weapons from him. He had paid R3,000 per pistol to his associate in Meerut,” said a police officer.
