Man hurt in mystery blast near IIT

The police could not find any explosive material at the spot; there were no eyewitnesses either. Traffic came to a crawl after the explosion.

There was a depression on the road soon after the explosion took place around 10.40 am. Shivnath, who works for a telecommunication company, was on his way to his Lado Sarai office when he heard the explosion. “He fell off his bike and his back started bleeding. He thought that he was perspiring, but passers-by told him that it was blood. We rushed him to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences where he was given medical attention. His head was also injured,” said a senior police officer.

The police said that they have registered a case under Section 435 (causing fire by mischief) and 323 (hurt) at the Hauz Khas Police Station.

“We have collected some substance from the spot and have sent them for forensic examination. It is not clear how the explosion occurred. We have recorded the statements of the local people and are investigating the case,” said a senior police officer.

“The explosion was deafening. We have no clue what caused it. Initially, I thought that it was a bomb blast,” said Chatrapal, an eyewitness.

The police denied that the explosion took place due to a short-circuit in a transformer. “There is no transformer near the blast spot,” said the officer.
