A 25-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of the Metro at the Chawri Bazaar station on Thursday around 2:35 pm The man’s identity is yet to be established.

The man, CCTV footage showed, bought the ticket at 2:11 pm at Chawri Bazaar station and spent the next 20 minutes inside the station. Police said he could be a vagabond.
He jumped on the tracks minutes before metro was scheduled to arrive. “He started running towards the tunnel, the same direction from where the metro was to come,” said Anuj Dayal, spokesperson, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
The train operator noticed the man
and applied emergency brakes. However, by the time the train came to a halt,
the man had been crushed. Police said
the deceased's legs were completely crushed.
An ambulance was immediately called. The man was declared dead by doctors on arrival at the station. The body was handed over to the Kashmere Gate police station.The train was plying from Central Secretariat to Vishwavidyalaya.
Metro officials said till now nine lives had been saved by drivers of people attempting to commit suicide by jumping on the tracks.
