A 21-year-old man from the Loni area of Ghaziabad, who recently got married to a girl of the same caste, has sought protection from the Ghaziabad police. In his complaint to Senior Superintendent of Police Raghubir Lal, Ajit Singh said he married to Sangeeta Nagar (23) on June 19 this year at Yamuna Bazar Arya Samaj temple in Delhi.

"Singh then took his wife to his relatives’ house in Baghpat The same night, the girl’s family members forcibly took her with them. Singh managed to escape," Harpal Singh, Singh's uncle, said. A panchayat was reportedly called by the girl's family the next day where they asked Singh’s family to return the wedding photographs and certificates, threatening to kill them if they failed to do so by Friday. Singh said Sangeeta might be killed by her family.
Lal said security personnel had been deployed at Singh's house. "We are pursuing the girl's family to make her appear at a court and record her statements. Her family is unhappy about the educational difference between the two,” Lal said.
