In a massive crackdown on unscrupulous placement agencies in the Capital, a team of Delhi police and an NGO raided at least eight such agencies across the city and rescued six minor girls.

According to sources, such raids are going to be intensified in the coming few days as the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has received a list of over 20 minors who are working as domestic helps in various areas.

All the rescued girls have been sent to a shelter home and will be produced before the CWC on April 17.

"The matter has been referred to the crime branch. Only crime branch should deal with such cases, as there could be more such girls and more traffickers involved. Crime branch should produce such children before us, as and when they are rescued," the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) said in a statement.

Some of the girls, who were rescued, were not being paid for the work they did. Most of the girls are from West Bengal.

The CWC has also asked for an age determination test to be conducted on all the girls at Safdarjung hospital.
