The mayors of the three corporations along with leaders of each House met the lieutenant governor (LG) on Thursday to protest a statement made by municipal commissioners calling for a rise in property tax and parking charges.

Savita Gupta of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), Annapurna Mishra of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation and Mira Aggarwal of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) told the LG, Tejender Khanna, that the commissioners should be restrained from making statements before discussing with the mayors.
“The BJP won’t introduce any additional or new tax. The executive wing should stay away from making such statements without discussing it with the mayors,” Yogender Chandolia, chairman-designate, NDMC standing committee, said.
On Wednesday, the commissioners had said the parking charge and property tax should be raised to increase the revenue of the corporations.
The mayors requested the LG to convene a meeting every month to chalk out the issues tangled in multiplicity of authorities and adamancy of the Delhi government. “The LG assured us that the meeting to work out the tangled issues would start soon,” said Subhash Arya, leader of the House, SDMC, said.
