The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has warned that institutions violating the provision will face strict action. The civic body said it will bring out advertisements to make it

clear to the public that there is a provision of 25% EWS quota in all its 757 recognised schools under the Right to Education Act.

"Admission in this category is open. As per the provisions of the Act, these students will be provided uniforms and textbooks free of cost by the concerned schools and no fee will be charged from them. These schools would be compensated for the expenditure incurred as per the rates fixed by the government," said a senior MCD official.

MCD's education committee chairman Mahender Nagpal said the advertisements will be published in a day or two. He also said schools violating the provision will face showcause notices and strict action will be taken if their replies are unsatisfactory.

Another senior MCD leader said the civic agency is planning to depute primary school teachers to bring more EWS students to schools.

On February 4, the MCD had announced the schedule for admission at entry level for economically weaker section students in MCD and MCD-recognised schools across the city..

According to a Delhi government notification, a child belonging to economically weaker section means someone whose parents have a total annual income of less than R1 lakh from all sources and who have been staying in the national Capital for the past three years.
