The domestic breeding checkers (DBCs) in the city will strike work from Monday, as their demands have not been met.
Ashok Chaudhary, general secretary of the anti-malaria Karamchari Sangh said that all the 3,200 DBCs have signed a letter stating that they will only get back to work after their demands have been met.
"We had held a meeting with Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials and they had asked us to give them three days for deciding the course of action to be taken. We have not heard from them after that. All the DBCs have decided that they will stage a dharna outside Town Hall from Monday," said Chaudhary.
According to Chaudhary, they will go on an indefinite strike, as the civic agency has not made them permanent staffers even after 15 years.
The civic agency has a total of 3,200 DBCs working for them on contractual basis, who have been demanding to be made permanent staff.
The cash-strapped civic agency has said the DBCs' demand cannot be fulfilled as they are already short of funds.
"We are not in a position to make them permanent, as we are yet to get our funds from the Delhi government. We had asked for Rs 79 crore, out of which merely 11 crore has been released so far. In such a situation, we can't even think of regularising them," said a senior MCD official.

{{/usCountry}}The civic agency had also said that the demand of DBCs can't be met and it will take strict action against errant workers.
