The issue of road-cutting was raised in the Standing Committee of the MCD on Wednesday wherein municipal councillors alleged that a number of roads in the city are lying in a bad state as Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has been carrying out digging work on them to lay or repair sewer and water pipes but in return does not pay MCD the required amount of money to carry out repair of the roads.

“For every road that they dig, they pay approximately Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore while the actual amount required to repair them is about Rs 70 crore to Rs 80 crore. There is a huge gap between the two and we end up suffering as the roads remain in a bad condition,” said KS Mehra, municipal commissioner.

He further said that MCD is currently discussing the matter with the Delhi chief secretary to fix a standard rate at which road cutting will be permitted.
