MCD elections: Kejriwal to hit campaign trail from March 31

The AAP’s campaign has already started rolling with party candidates and legislators conducting door-to-door campaign and mass contact programme to reach out.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will lead the Aam Aadmi Party’s municipal election campaign, with the AAP national convener slated to hold over two dozen public meetings across the three municipal corporations, starting from March 31.

Party leaders said the AAP is sticking to its strategy adopted before the 2015 Assembly polls and Kejriwal will hold a large number of jansabhas (public meetings) instead of a handful of big rallies.

While the BJP and Congress are still to come out with a list of their candidates, the AAP has announced candidates for 260 of the 272 municipal seats.

The AAP’s campaign has already started rolling with party candidates and legislators conducting door-to-door campaign and mass contact programme to reach out.

“While other parties are busy with their internal squabbles, AAP candidates, leaders and MLAs are already on the ground campaigning. Once Arvind Kejriwal enters the canvassing, the AAP’s campaign will hit top gear,” said Ashish Talwar, in-charge, AAP (Delhi).

During the 2015 Assembly elections, in which AAP won 67 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, Kejriwal had held a large number of jansabhas and reached out to the electorate in each of the city’s 70 constituencies. In some constituencies, he held more than one public meeting.

AAP officials said apart from Kejriwal, other senior leaders led by deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia will also start campaigning by the month-end.
