The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested six accused persons, including three engineers, working for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), as part of its probe into alleged irregularities in the award of a Rs 34 crore civic streetlighting-upgradation contract to a private firm in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games (CWG) held last October.

A city court remanded the accused individuals to CBI custody for four days. The Central Vigilance Commission had handed over the case's probe to the CBI after receiving complaints of alleged irregularities.
The agency, which had registered an FIR in the case last year, has found that the accused officials had allegedly tampered with the contract's tendering process to favour Sweka Engineering Works, which had bagged the contract. "The probe found that the accused MCD officials had manipulated the contract's tendering process to favour a private firm and to eliminate other bidder/s, which cost the exchequer a loss of over Rs 3 crore," said a CBI source.
The arrested included MCD superintending engineer DK Sugan, executive engineer OP Mahla and tender clerk Gurcharan.
