The letter, written by education chairman Mahender Nagpal, has also asked the chief minister whether to extend the dates for admission to ensure more students can apply. There are a total of 783 private schools in the city recognized by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

The civic agency was expecting at least close to 10,000 students under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category. However, this year merely 608 students have taken admission.

"The poor response is also due to lack of information provided by the Delhi government. The schools are still not clear about the funding procedure and documentation required for admission. I have asked the Delhi chief minister to tell us whether we should extend the dates," said Nagpal.
