MCD tables plan for Nizamuddin revamp

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) standing committee has finally tabled the proposal to start the first phase of streetscaping of Hazrat Nizzamuddin basti and surrounding areas. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) standing committee has finally tabled the proposal to start the first phase of streetscaping of Hazrat Nizzamuddin basti and surrounding areas. The proposal was tabled at the committee's meeting on Wednesday for approving the project's cost of Rs 1.14 crore.

"The basti has a dense population and is visited by over a million national and attracts international visitors and pilgrims every year. In order to improve the quality of life of the residents population and the visitors' and pilgrims' experience it was necessary to carry out a major street revamp by providing interlocking tiles and re-laying of storm water drain wherever required," said a senior MCD official.

"Accordingly the scheme was approved by the corporation in July this year and tenders were floated for improvement of main approaches to Hazrat Nizamudin basti in the first phase. However, tenders for the remaining phases would be invited on availability of budget and it had already been discussed at various levels that these works would be taken up after the Games," he added.
