Learning on the job is essential. Training institutes have limited access to hands-on exposure.

* There is a lack of awareness about different job profiles in the newsroom.

* One may not be suited to face the camera but may have the aptitude for back-end work like editing or sound engineering.

* Everyone wants to be on screen or have a byline to sport. This has depleted the ‘desk’ in the newsroom.

* The copy editor is not someone who just wars with commas, semi colons and full stops. On the contrary, he/she plays a crucial role in turning a story on its head with his/her inputs in packaging and positioning of a story.
