Indians saw their first news bulletin in 1965, six years after the inception of television broadcasting in 1959.

The first ever news bulletin in the country went on the air from the Bombay Station on July 23, 1927 under a private company, the Indian Broadcasting Company. It went into liquidation in 1930 and came under the control of the Government of India.

* In 1995, NDTV became India’s first private producer of national news with News Tonight, which was aired on Doordarshan.
