Children’s Day turned out to be extra special for Metro bosses. Delhi Metro broke another record on Saturday — it grossed Rs 1.64 crore — the highest earning from ticket sales on a single day since it started on December 26, 2002.

The Metro’s previous record in single-day ticket sales was Rs 1.25 crore, this August 3.
According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials, its daily earnings hovered around Rs 1 crore in the past few months.
Senior DMRC officials, however, said there wasn't a visible surge in passenger traffic, except for the addition of those travelling on the recently started Yamuna Bank-Noida section.
DMRC officials attribute the sudden surge in collections to three factors — the hike in fares, the Yamuna Bank-Noida section being opened and the start of the trade fair at Pragati Maidan.
DMRC increased its fare by 36 per cent from November 13.
“But these earnings do not make us buoyant. All profits will go back to repay the huge loan we have taken from financial institution Japan International Cooperative Agency (JICA) to build this system,” DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.
DMRC has to repay about Rs 11,000 crore it has taken from JICA for its 190-km network.
