The Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) experiment on the Bus Rapid Transit Corridor (BRT), turning it into a normal road will face its litmus test on Monday. The trial run by CRRI was launched on Saturday but the first day of the week will witness maximum traffic volume and the motorists may have to face confusion, chaos and traffic snarls along the 5.8 kilometre road from Ambedkar Nagar to Moolchand Hospital in south Delhi.

During the trial — just as another normal road — the buses will move in the left lane and the passengers will have to abandon the bus queue shelters and wait on the footpath to board the bus.

Motorists going to take a right turn at the next traffic intersection will have to move to the lane along the central verge, at the previous intersection, to avoid any confusion or a possible collision.

The CRRI scientists said they have put up additional signages to prevent confusion.

"There are signages at each traffic intersection informing motorists to shift to the right-most lane if they have to turn right at the next intersection. Pamphlets have been distributed to create awareness," said S Velmurugan, a senior CRRI scientist who is also heading the study team.
