Money lender drives man to commit suicide

A 35-year-old man committed suicide by consuming poison at his Indrapuri residence in Loni. The victim, Ashok Kumar, was unable to bear the alleged harassment from an industrial-unit owner who had lent him a sum of R80,000. Peeyush Khandelwal reports.

A 35-year-old man committed suicide by consuming poison at his Indrapuri residence in Loni. The victim, Ashok Kumar, was unable to bear the alleged harassment from an industrial-unit owner who had lent him a sum of R80,000, the police said on Wednesday.

Kumar was an employee of the accused Pramod Sharma and also ran a part-time business from home to earn a living.

Kumar left a 14-page diary detailing the harassment that he faced from Sharma and also a single-page suicide note for his wife, the police said.

"We had taken the amount and had repaid a major part. But due to the interest rate, Sharma demanded more money and also took away our house documents. He also made my husband sign some blank papers," said Kiran Kumar, victim's wife.

The diary and the suicide note accused Pramod Kumar for allegedly troubling the victim. Sharma had reportedly set Tuesday as the deadline for repayment of the loan.

"In his suicide note, the victim said he was confused and worried about his future as Sharma had threatened him with dire consequences," a police official said.
