The weatherman on Monday said that Delhiites will have to wait for at least a week more for monsoon rains.

The seasonal rains phenomenon have virtually stopped their northward progress owing to lack of favourable wind currents over the Indian Ocean, he said.

"The monsoon currents have fizzled out and we have to wait for a new system to develop," Ajit Tyagi, Director General of India Meteorological Department (IMD), told PTI.

Monsoon is not hitting the capital tomorrow, which is the normal date for the onset of the monsoon, and is expected to hit the city in the first week of July, IMD Director B P Yadav said.

"There could be variation of three-four days. We expect the monsoon to hit the city in the first week of July," he said.

Last year, the monsoon had reached the city on June 30.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 40 degree Celsius on Monday while the minimum was recorded at 28.1 degrees. The humidity was recorded between 35 and 66 per cent.
