The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has claimed there the number of children joining its nursery and primary schools has gone up.

Dr Mahinder Nagpal, chairman, MCD’s education committee, said that the number of students in nursery classes has witnessed an increase of over 4,000 while primary schools have witnessed increase by 14,000 students.
Nagpal said the total number of schools has increased from 1,629 to 1,740. “The overall number of students at the primary schools currently is 9,42,135 while it was 9,28,406 last year,” Dr Nagpal added.
According to Dr Nagpal, the MCD schools provided a number of facilities including mid-day meals, upgradation of school infrastructure, free books, copies, school bags, dresses, shoes and water bottles, which has led to the increase in enrollment.
