According to her, more people have emerged as the tormentors of her children and the family is on the receiving end of constant threats from them as the police turn a blind eye.

"A man called Pawan, who owns a mobile shop in Ghaffar Market, came to the public park near our house a month ago. He is a friend of one of the four juveniles who used to abuse my children with Lalit Ratwal, the cab driver. Pawan gave my son some smack," the 32-year-old mother said.

"When I caught him and complained to the personal security officer (PSO), he threatened me with dire consequences. The same night, he and about 50 of his friends hurled abuses at us outside our house while I cried inside and the PSO did nothing," she said.

She said her 14-year-old child, addicted to smack, scaled the bathroom wall and escaped from the family's first-floor house after a trip to the market on January 3.

Deputy commissioner of police (central) Vivek Kishore could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.

However, a senior police officer from the Prasad Nagar police station said a missing person's complaint was registered on January 4, but there were no leads.
