Musical to mark MSM’s 50 years

MSM, as the school is popularly known, was founded in 1963 by Patrician Brothers, a brotherhood that runs several reputed educational institutions around the world.

Located in the Delhi cantonment, the school, which caters primarily to the children of defence personnel, has a total of 1,835 students. “In recent years, the demand from the defence community has grown manifold and we have been unable to keep pace with it. This year, we hope to start the construction of a new academic block and expand the capacity of the school,” said Rev. Bro. Dominic Jacob, principal, in the run-up to the school’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Shedding light on the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, Bro. Jacob added that it will feature 500 students and be directed by George Pulinkala. Originally, Jesus Christ Superstar was a rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Weber which was first staged on the Broadway in 1970.

The 46th Gowardhan Dass Declamation Contest was held at Springdales School, Pusa Road, recently in which 18 schools participated. The topics of the contest were “Pursuing labels over purpose”, “The right to education act” and “Face to face or Facebook?” The occasion was graced by Dr Rajni Kumar, chairperson and founder principal and members of the management, teachers and students. Principal, Ameeta Mulla Wattal said , “It is the young that confront the world with a spirit of idealism and humanism. The contest is not just about display of language skills, but also sensitising students about the world.” The event was chaired by Sridhar Rajan, an ex- student of the school . The judges were Dr Nalini G Kapoor, assistant professor, dept of English, Delhi University and Atiya Zaidi, publisher, Ratna Sagar Pvt Ltd. The Gowardhan Dass trophy was bagged by Modern School, Barakhamba Road, while the Anil Dass Trophy for the second best team was awarded to DPS,Mathura Road. Aadya Chawla, student of Springdales, Pusa Road, won the consolation prize.

DAV Public School, Pushpanjali Enclave , celebrated its annual day “Effervescence”, where the students displayed their talents in the cultural as well as academic field. Shri Punam Suri President, DAV College Managing Committee graced the occasion as the chief guest. Chairman and manager of the school were also present. Sanskriti School, Chanakyapuri, organised “Book Week” from April 24 to 26 in association with HT- PACE to promote reading habit among students. In a unique initiative , the school fixed “drop everything and read” time for everyone. Book stalls put by various publishers gave students an opportunity to purchase books of their choice.
