The minister was answering a question asked on February 27 during the budget session of Parliament.

The question was whether the government was aware of the poor construction, maintenance and lack of basic facilities in the flats allotted under DDA’s 2010 housing scheme.

There were also questions regarding any inquiry ordered to fix responsibility for the shortcomings and the steps being taken by the government to sort them out.

Hindustan Times has been consistently writing about the problems faced by allottees of these flats who have taken huge loans to buy these flats and now find them unliveable.

From non-availability of power and water to bad internal roads, poor construction, lack of elevators in high-rises and fire safety mechanisms, allottees of flats in areas such as Vasant Kunj D-6, Mukherjee Nagar, Dwarka 18-B and Motia Khan complain about all kinds of problems.

“The provision of water supply and sewerage is complete in all respects. However, some teething problems and complaints regarding maintenance are being attended to on regular basis,” he said in his reply.

Nath said disciplinary action has been initiated against three DDA executive engineers and one assistant engineer for delay in completion of amenities.

He said the DDA insisted upon the agencies concerned to complete the works of electrification, internal street lighting and roads within the next 2-3 months.
