Nature took centre stage when students of more than 100 schools participated in the annual on-the-spot inter-school essay-writing competition organised by Partnerships for Action in Education (PACE), the Hindustan Times Newspaper in Education initiative, in association with the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), here on Friday.

Students from across the Delhi/NCR wrote essays on the theme 'Save, protect and preserve nature for a cleaner, better and healthier future' for Classes 4-5 and 'The joy of life lies in Nature's beauty, preserving it is our sacred duty' for Classes 6-8.

"The environment is a burning issue and I was actually prepared for the topic," said Aamani Golay, a Class 5 student of Sanskriti, Chanakyapuri.

"The given topic wasn't difficult. We read and write about the environment regularly," said Nashra Usmain, a Class 8 student of Frank Anthony Public School, Lajpat Nagar.

An panel of experts from NMNH will assess the entries and the winners' names will be announced either in the last week of November or early December.

The result will be announced in the HT students' edition and excerpts from the winning entries would be published in School Times, a supplement of the HT students' edition.

The winner in each of the categories will receive a glittering PACE-NMNH Rolling Trophy on behalf of their school as well as individual prizes and certificates.
