Residents of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and UP have something to cheer about.

Travelling between these cities is set to become easy and fast with the implementation of a dedicated Regional Rail Transit System (RRTS) — a dedicated suburban rail based transit system.
The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) and National Capital Regional Planning Board (NCRPB) had conducted a study on ‘Integrated Transportation Plan for NCR’ with the perspective year as 2032.
The study recommended a rail=based rapid transit system to solve the inter-city transportation issues.
The Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) has been asked to undertake the feasibility report and detailed project report for two of the proposed railway corridors — Delhi-Sonepat-Panipat and Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut.
The Urban Mass Transit Company limited (UMTC)will be carrying out the study for the Delhi-Gurgaon-Rewari-Alwar corridor.
The studies will be completed by March 2011.
A special company will be formed by the MoUD, NCRPB and the state governments of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan to implement this project. The project cost has been estimated at Rs. 5000 crores.
The railway lines will be laid parallel to the existing railway lines on which both the inter-city as well as long distance trains is currently running.
